"If it was handmade, looked cool, and caught someone's attention- it was purchased!" ... or so the estate representative told us -- and she is right -- this house is the epitome of eclectic, from Native American art to European antiques to Marine Salvage to Mid Century Modern, and everything in between as collected by three generations of artists. And the house itself is equally unusual, an old log cabin meets sailing vessel.
That being said, this sale features a large assortment of vintage Native American baskets, masks (with one by master carver Harvey Kyllonen), carvings, argilite, kachinas, SW pottery and Alaskan ivory.
A great antique oak showcase with sliding panel doors, vintage oak bookcase and file cabinet, beautiful carved Continental armoire, Mid Century armchairs and accent tables, antique chests including a large dower chest, and a unique Gypsy cart painted wagon wheel coffee table from the old Frederick and Nelson Wide World Shop.
Knife collection, swords and fencing foils. Artwork from Elton Bennett, a superb old harvesters painting and other Northwest and European artists. Timepieces, from a Deco tall case clock to a French figural harvester mantel clock to a vintage Memosail Chronograph men's wristwatch.
Textiles incl. Oriental and Karastan carpets, SW weavings and Pendleton blankets.
Mariner's treasures: furnishings from an old Liberty Ship via Zidell's Salvage incl. table, bookshelves, small cabinets, a bench and instruments. Great lamps in many styles. Vintage clothing and a large collection of Norwegian sweaters and a charming petite English chiffarobe to store them in.
A rare set of turn of the century anatomical posters with storage case, plus Victorian medical books.
A nostalgic child's room with books and toys, plus more books, ephemera and posters throughout the house. Silver, featuring a large set of old heavy "Smithsonian" sterling flatware by Stieff. Jewelry: sterling, turquoise, an antique cameo and other small treasures. Seashells, sea glass and sea art.
Two vintage Maxfield Parrish prints. An outstanding large vintage oak architect's table, plus small oak rolltop desk and work table. Exotic items from around the world: Indonesian puppets to African carvings and masks. Large and small stained glass windows. A unique elaborately carved large British firescreen.
And then there's that back patio with old iron, primitive accents, rock hound finds from obsidian to agates, old flags and other bits we are still uncovering...
