Setting the Standard for Personal Property Appraisals and Professional Estate Sale Management

Mary Sudar, Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers, has set the standard for well-organized and professionally-managed estate sales since 1984. Her services have been retained by professionals including attorneys, trust officers, financial advisors, guardians, personal representatives and executors as well as the hundreds of individuals who have relied upon her for their own, their friends" and their families estate sale and personal property marketing needs.

One important aspect that sets Mary Sudar Estate Sales apart is her valuation and research skills, utilized in both her appraisal and her estate management work. Over the past quarter-century-plus, Mary has identified and valued all types of personal property including, but not limited to, fine art, paintings, prints and sculpture, decorative arts items including furniture, china, silver, glass, books, paper, historical documents, musical instruments, dolls and toys, popular collectibles, costume jewelry, tools and more.

Mary is skilled at finding the right market for a particular item, be it a local, on-site sale, exposure on Ebay or consignment to an international auction house. Please note that Mary does not own a shop and does not purchase items from her clients or pieces which she has valued, a potential conflict of interest.

With an academic background in art history and French, and nearly 3 decades to date of ongoing professional development including museum courses and classes in connoisseurship, identification, research methodology, USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) and report writing, Mary stays at the top of her profession. She is also diligent about identifying materials outside her area of expertise and maintains a large network of colleagues with whom she can consult as necessary in order to accurately identify and value all types of personal property. Mary maintains one of the largest private in-house fine and decorative arts reference libraries in the area containing thousands of volumes, extensive sales files and up-to-the-minute databases reporting regional, national and international sales results. Mary Sudar works diligently to establish values which are appropriate for the sales venue, defendable, unbiased, impartial and realistic, accurately reflecting the current market.
